Kraken for Beginners

Kraken is one of the most popular cryptocurrency trading platforms for beginners. We look at some beginner-friendly information about getting started with Kraken for trading cryptocurrencies or placing simple sell orders for Bitcoin or Ethereum.

Getting Started with Kraken

Before you get started with Kraken, you will need to have an account with the exchange. You can register for a Kraken account here. It is also where you can log in after you have registered. Note that trading is free on Kraken and offers some more advanced trading features for a small fee if you want to diversify your investments or trade at higher volumes.

Depositing Fiat Currency (USD, EUR, GBP)

To deposit fiat currency on Kraken, go to the Deposit page, which is available under the Funding tab in your account. You can then select the money you want to deposit, follow the instructions on connecting your bank account or credit card, and wait for your funds to be credited to your Kraken account. If a deposit is not credited immediately, please allow 24-48 hours for the funds to be visible on your account. It usually takes a few business days.

Detecting Fiat currency conversions and fees

The first time depositing fiat currency might be confusing as several screens and information appear once you have selected the money you want to deposit in your Kraken account. A simple guide will be a helpful tool.

Depending on the currency, you might need to confirm your deposit. It can be done by following the instructions given on your confirmation screen. In all cases, please note that you will have a conversion fee of 1-3% of the deposit amount if you put money into Kraken in Euro or USD and have not set a limit on your currency balance at the time of deposit. It is standard practice for brokerages, and Kraken’s management is not obligated to provide refunds for these fees.

Kraken Account Security

Your Kraken account is safe by the advanced security measures Kraken puts in place. However, please note that once you have deposited fiat currency on Kraken, no additional protections will be provided to your funds until there has been a single successful password recovery attempt. Anyone can do it.

To protect yourself from potential thefts, it is best not to let anyone see the private keys to your account. We recommend you use a unique password for your Kraken account and keep it as secure as possible.

The passphrase is very important as it will be your only way to recover funds if you forget your password. Please note that Kraken does not support any form of multi-factor authentication. Multi-factor authentication provides extra security to keep out hackers trying to access your account. However, Kraken does not provide it in the funds offered by the exchange, which is a restriction for many traders due to its convenience for use on mobile devices for foreign markets and high trading volumes.

Withdrawing Fiat Currency (USD, EUR, GBP)

You can withdraw fiat currency from your Kraken account anytime by clicking the Withdrawals tab and selecting the currency you want to remove. Once you have chosen the money, you can follow the instructions on transferring funds to your bank, debit card, or credit card. Please note that if you withdraw funds from Kraken in USD or EUR and Kraken does not support your currency for withdrawal, there will be no way for you to retrieve these funds, even if Kraken supports your currency or charges a small conversion fee. You will also be subject to a fee of 1-3% of the sum, depending on the currency and whether there is enough confirmation of identity checks performed on withdrawal transactions.

Trading Cryptocurrency

The trading interface on Kraken offers advanced features which make it attractive as an exchange platform for experienced traders. The trading interface is available on all supported web browsers, desktops, and mobile devices. All trading tools needed to trade cryptocurrency are available in the Trading Tools tab of the account.

Kraken clients can deposit, withdraw and trade cryptocurrency on the platform using several methods, including bank transfers, wire transfers, and SWIFT payments.

First-time users who have never traded crypto before will have to sign up for an account before they can start trading. Once you are an account holder, you cannot directly deposit or withdraw any coins, but you can place orders for buy or sell orders. Once you have set up an order with some cryptocurrency of your choice, you can automatically get the trading icon on your account, and you are ready to trade.

Trading View

After logging in, you will see your trading screen in the top right corner, or you can use the Trading View tab. You should watch out for alerts so that you will be notified if there are any market changes in the price of your cryptocurrency. If nothing seems important to you, then ignore it and continue with other businesses. If something is essential, click on it, and a chart shows live prices showing what happened on the current trading day (or market). If you want to know more about it, look at the chart. You can also click on the symbol of your preferred cryptocurrency, which will switch to showing information about that coin’s historical performance and current market prices.

Kraken Trading Pairs

Kraken offers trading pairs for a wide variety of different cryptocurrencies. To search for a specific team, click on the trading pair tab and choose from a list of available pairs.

Once you have chosen a set of coins, click on “Buy/Sell” again, which will bring you to a screen where you can find out everything there is to know – including fees – about your transaction.

The numbers displayed in the column “Buy Price” represent the highest value you can buy a coin at, while the numbers in the column “Sell Price” represent how much you would receive for selling. To sell coins, enter how many you want to sell and how much money you want to get from doing so, then check the box labeled “Limit.” It tells Kraken that your order can only be filled at or below the price specified. Otherwise, check “Market,” and your order will be executed instantly at any price point on the market! You can also offer both conditions when buying or selling.

Once you’re ready to make your trade, click “Next.” Here you will see the final step of your transaction.

In the end, if you have any remaining questions, check out the FAQ section or speak to a member of their 24/7 support team via the help center.

Fees and Limits

When using Kraken to make trades, you may be charged a fee on top of the amount you can trade. These fees depend on the currency pair but range from 0%-0.26%. It means that if you are selling a standard currency pair like Bitcoin to USD (XBT/USD), then charges will depend on how much money is being transferred in this transaction and how much money is being received.

Kraken has a limit of 2 BTC for unverified accounts and 100 BTC for verified accounts. Again this is only valid for XBT/USD trading pairs.

Kraken FAQs

How to Make Money Trading Cryptocurrency?

Trading cryptocurrency is about buying low, selling high, and profiting from the price difference. Trading cryptocurrencies at an exchange like Kraken is a perfect way to do that because you can trade so many different cryptocurrencies for many other cryptocurrencies. If you want to make extra money, give it a shot!

How do I create a Kraken account?

If you want to start trading Bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies, you first need to create a Kraken account. No worries, though; it’s pretty easy. You must enter your email and desired password in the appropriate boxes to create an account. You will also need to agree with their terms of service and privacy policy before signing up for an account.

Once you have filled out all the necessary information, click “Sign Up.” You will receive a confirmation code in the email you entered to log into your new Kraken account. You must enter that code in the “Confirmation Code” box and click on “Confirm.” If you don’t see a confirmation email, check your spam box!

What are the Verification Tiers?

Kraken offers three verification tiers: Verified by Kraken (VKB), Credit by Kraken (CKB), and Authorized.

Verified by Kraken (VKB) – Verified accounts have been verified by an individual in Kraken’s fraud department and are therefore considered more trustworthy when opening a trade.

  • Users of Verified by Kraken must provide proof that they have an account on a place like Facebook, Google, or LinkedIn to use this option.
  • The higher the tier you go up, the better your account is protected against potential fraud attempts.
  • Verified by Kraken, accounts cannot deposit, withdraw, or trade fiat with other applications from Kraken.
  • Verified by Kraken accounts do not need to provide identification documents to maintain this verification level. However, it is recommended that users be at least 18 years of age for verification to take place.

Credit by Kraken (CKB) – Credit by Kraken does not require a user to be over 18 years old to maintain this verification level.

  • Users of Credit by Kraken have passed the identity check and have been deemed trustworthy enough to trade within their rights. You can still provide proof that you are over 18 for your account to qualify for this tier if you wish.
  • Users of Credit by Kraken can deposit, withdraw, and trade fiat with other applications from Kraken.
  • Credit by Kraken accounts do not need to provide identification documents to maintain this verification level. However, it is recommended that users be at least 16 years of age for verification to take place.

Authorized: User accounts authorized by a verified account are considered the most trustworthy by Kraken’s exchange staff and therefore have the highest protection against fraud. The maximum amount that can be traded in Authorized accounts is 100 BTC without additional verification requirements.

  • User identity information is not required to open an Authorized account as long as you are verified on another platform already via Kraken.
  • Authorized accounts can deposit, withdraw, and trade fiat with other applications from Kraken.

What is the Extremely Low Fee Policy?

Kraken was one of the first Bitcoin exchanges in the world that operated under a “Bitcoin Low Fee Policy.” When depositing funds into your account or placing an order on Kraken, fees will be as low as 0.03%. You don’t need to spend hours waiting for funds to confirm before you can begin trading! If for any reason, your withdrawal doesn’t go through within 30 days of being requested and your order does not complete within 10 minutes of being placed, then it will be refunded in full.

If you are interested in trading cryptocurrency on Kraken, then you are probably already well aware of their platform’s size. They are one of the most popular cryptocurrency exchanges and have been operating for more than five years. Kraken gets a lot of attention for several different things, including supporting substantial transaction volumes, trading with advanced tools like stop-losses and margin trading, and discouraging the use of Tether (USDT), which is less than ideal for traders.

However, it certainly has its downsides too. The most notable of these disadvantages is that Kraken does not operate its blockchain network – it is an exchange that deals exclusively with fiat currency. It holds customer assets in fiat currency bank accounts that it cannot keep within a cryptocurrency wallet.
